Storage Tank Roofs and Cover Systems

Storage tank roofs are selected by function, not by name alone. A potable water tank may need a sanitary cover and screened vents, a wastewater tank may need odor-control review, a fuel tank may need vapor-control or floating roof analysis, and a biogas tank may need a membrane roof or gas holder system.

Common options include aluminum dome roofs, fixed steel roofs, internal floating roofs, external floating roofs, and single or double membrane covers. The correct choice depends on tank diameter, stored media, vapor pressure, wind/snow load, corrosion exposure, maintenance access, and whether the roof is new-build or retrofit.

A roof quotation should confirm the interface with the tank shell. Buyers should provide top-ring details, tank standard, drawing files if available, required accessories, and installation responsibility before comparing suppliers.

Avoid Mixing Roof Types

A dome roof is not the same as a floating roof, and a membrane gas holder is not the same as a fixed cover. Buyers should state the required function before selecting the product family.
